Bit Strength: Mild
The Hanging cheek is a fixed cheek bit which helps encourage flexion, making this bit is especially useful for horses with a high head carriage. Can also be useful for horses that are unsure of the bit as it has limited movement in the mouth.
The double jointed mouth piece with brass alloy lozenge distributes the pressure evenly over the tongue and bars of the mouth whilst aiding salivation and also helping to calm and focus the horse. Blue sweet iron oxidises easily which creates a warming sensation and a sweet taste in the horse's mouth, helping them to accept the bit. Please note that the blue colour will fade with use, this is normal.

Blue sweet iron bits oxidise easily which creates a warm sweet taste in the horse's mouth, encouraging them to salivate. Why Choose a Ported Pelham for your horse?
Bit strength: Strong
Pelham’s have been designed to be used with two reins, one attached to the top ring (snaffle) and one attached to the bottom loose ring (curb), which is used when needed for extra leverage. Can also be used with rounding’s attached to a single rein so that the mouthpiece and the curb come into action at the same time.
The medium port arches over the centre of the mouth, creating more space, which is ideal for horses with a larger tongue. The small ring above the curb is used for a lip strap which is not essential but is correct for showing and it helps to keep the curb chain flat. Pelham's are ideal for stronger horses who may benefit from the activation of the curb rein which puts pressure on the bars of the mouth, chin, poll and the roof of the mouth to help promote correct head carriage.

PE Three Ring Dutch Gag with Copper Lozenge

Why Choose a Two-Ring Gag for your horse?
Bit strength: Moderate
A Three Ring Dutch gag typically consists of four rings in total but with only three rings that you can actually attach the reins to, giving it the name. The top ring attaches to the cheek pieces of the bridle and you can attach the reins to any of the three lower rings to provide a variety of different leverage options.
Also known as a continental bit, it works by raising the bit in the horse's mouth in a similar way to a traditional gag but without the same severity. Using the reins on the lower rings significantly increases poll pressure which is why we recommend using two reins or rounding's attached to a single rein when using them. This ensures that a correct contact can be maintained on the snaffle ring without poll pressure when needed.
The double jointed mouthpiece with copper lozenge distributes pressure evenly over the tongue and bars of the mouth whilst reducing the nutcracker action of a single jointed bit. Copper is a warm metal which encourage the horse to salivate and mouth on the bit.

Why Choose a Two-Ring Gag for your horse?
Bit strength: Moderate
Also known as a continental bit, it works by raising the bit in the horse's mouth in a similar way to a traditional gag but without the same severity. The reins can either be attached to the snaffle ring, or the lower ring for increased poll pressure and leverage. You can also use two reins or rounding's attached to a single rein with this bit so that a correct contact can be maintained on the snaffle ring without poll pressure when needed.
An anatomical copper lozenge in the centre helps to distribute even pressure over both the tongue and bars of the mouth and also encourages mouthing and contact. Copper is a warm metal that encourages the horse to salivate and to mouth on the bit. Ideal for horses who require extra braking power when jumping or doing fast work.

Bit Strength: Strong
Pelham’s have been designed to be used with two reins, one attached to the top ring (snaffle) and one attached to the bottom loose ring (curb), which is used when needed for extra leverage. Can also be used with rounding’s attached to a single rein so that the mouthpiece and the curb come into action at the same time.
The double jointed Pelham with copper lozenge has a milder action in the mouth than some other Pelham's as it distributes the pressure evenly across the tongue and bars of the mouth whilst reducing the nutcracker action of a single jointed bit. Copper warms and encourages the horse to salivate and accept the bit. Double jointed mouthpieces can affect the way the curb comes in to action and lessen the directness by putting more pressure on the bars of the mouth.
The small ring above the curb is used for a lip strap which is not essential but is correct for showing and it helps to keep the curb chain flat. Pelham's are ideal for stronger horses who may benefit from the activation of the curb rein which puts pressure on the bars of the mouth, chin and poll to help promote correct head carriage.

Bit Strength: Strong
This Weymouth and Bradoon set is specifically designed for use on double bridles which are often worn for showing or dressage (Elementary level and above). The set includes a loose ring Bradoon with a single joint that allows more movement than a fixed cheek bit and is ideal for horses that are prone to leaning and fixing. The single joint Bradoon has a nutcracker action which works on the bars of the mouth and the lips.
The Weymouth has a straight bar mouthpiece that offers a more consistent action and acts on the tongue and the bars of the mouth; the port allows extra room for the tongue. The Weymouth has some poll pressure and used in conjunction with the curb chain, applies curb groove pressure. The Weymouth is also used to refine aids and to encourage a horse to sit back on their hocks in order to perform more advanced movements.
This set requires two reins, one attaches to the snaffle Bradoon and one attaches to the Weymouth bit. A curb chain is included and can be used with a lip strap (not included) in order to keep the curb chain flat. Please note: Double bridles should be used by experienced riders and are designed for horses who already perform well in a snaffle.

Bit Strength: Moderate
Also known as a continental bit, it works by raising the bit in the horse's mouth in a similar way to a traditional gag but without the same severity. The reins can either be attached to the snaffle ring, or the lower ring for increased poll pressure and leverage. You can also use two reins or rounding's attached to a single rein with this bit so that a correct contact can be maintained on the snaffle ring without poll pressure when needed.
An anatomical brass alloy lozenge in the centre helps to distribute even pressure over both the tongue and bars of the mouth and also encourages mouthing and contact. The blue sweet iron mouthpiece oxidises easily which creates a warming sensation and a sweet taste in the horse's mouth, helping them to accept the bit. Instead it has a slight curve and a medium port mouth which creates a mild action by applying pressure evenly across the tongue rather than the more sensitive bars and lips. The absence of a joint means there is no nutcracker or pinching action which makes these bits commonly used on horses with sensitive palates.

Why choose a flat ring Eggbutt snaffle for your horse?
Bit Strength: Mild
This is a good choice for horses with a small mouth or a large tongue because the slight curve of the mouthpiece reduces the nutcracker action and helps to prevent the bit from coming into contact with the palate. Fixed Eggbutt cheeks help to reduce vibrations down the reins, giving a more stable feeling to the horse. A single joint puts pressure on the lips and bars of the mouth. The thinner mouthpiece gives a slightly strong action but is still mild enough to be used by novice riders.
Made from stainless steel, which is the most common material used for horse bits, it is durable, easy to clean, tasteless and does not rust. A great all-round bit suited to many horses.
